The Decentralization Trend

The water industry is an interesting animal because it's a trillion-dollar industry. 

And yet we know there are still all kinds of problems with water in the world, right? 

And so how do you fix it?

People think of the water industry as being these big sewage plants down by the river... 

But in fact, there's been a trend happening, and it's called decentralization. 

So just to take you back, in the post-war fifties, the sixties, big water treatment plants were built. 

Only a few mega facilities treat wastewater from 90% of the population.

It was how things were done in the fifties, right?  “We'll take care of it for you.”

Decaying Infrastructure

But the problem was that from 1960 onwards, The infrastructure started falling apart. 

The maintenance costs have risen steadily over the years since then, and we're left with an infrastructure that can't support the population anymore.  

We've got these terrible things happening like in Compton, California, where the water runs brown and the people living there go, "What happened?" 

And the water company says, "You wouldn't give us the money. So, things fell apart." 

So, that's the reality. 

Nobody's going to be building-billion dollar water systems anymore. 

Nobody can agree on spending money anymore except on the most basic stuff. 

Big water projects just aren't on the list.

Water Systems On Location

So the answer is micro water systems, in other words, decentralized treatment at the point of use. 

I say micro water systems, because in energy, you have the central big grid, and then you have the microgrid, and more and more electrical activities occurring in the microgrid, not the central grid. 

Similar thing here. 

It's also called point of use.

Here we have a picture, all these different locations, and they're doing their own treatment. 

As a result, the central wastewater treatment plant, is much, much smaller than it has to be.  Or more accurately, the treatment plants can still handle the load as the community grows around them.

That's where our technology comes in - we enable localized reuse.

Water As A Career

And guess what? 80,000 businesses have gone belly up permanently in America this year alone. And that's not the end of it. 

So, lots of entrepreneurs are around, and we're putting them back to work with these solutions. 

We're working on financing these machines for them*, training them how to do it, showing them how to market it, and getting them rolling. 

They're making a good living again solving water problems. And it's good business for us too.

I mentioned it to a friend and she perked up immediately. She does fairly well in the business world as a controller.   She's an accountant, sharp, making a great salary.

She perked up and she said to me, "Oh, how can I do that? I want to do that." And then she asked me a lot of questions, "How do we get one of these deals?" 

And I said, "Well, you could, essentially, for pool recycling, you can drop off the unit at the beginning of the day and pick it up at the end of the day. And maybe you've made $600 or $800." 

"Well, I want to do that...."

Dwight Barber - Pool Preserver™ Pioneer
We started with a pilot program, And a couple years ago, they built this machine for this pioneer, Dwight Barber, who had the idea of doing pool water recycling. 

So instead of draining out the water in your pool, which you have to do every year or two,  Just run it like a dialysis unit, where it purifies it on a continuous basis. 

And we built it for him and he put it to work.  When he wanted to retire,  he came with this bright idea, "Hey, why don't I train somebody?" 

Well, one thing led to another, and we've now created a standard product called the Pool Preserver™. 

Pool Cleaning University

Do you know, we have already 12 people or couples that want to start doing pool preserving as a business, very lucrative business. And it's dramatically good for our Texas people. They get 12 times $120,000, so they're happy. 

And we're building a whole pool cleaning university for them, getting this whole thing packaged so that they can succeed. 

We're actually able, to finance it internally and it becomes an asset and an additional profit center for us as well. 

So every time we sell a unit - we make a cash profit on the sale, we make an additional profit on the interest, and we get to hold the note on our books as an asset which makes us stronger financially.

People are really motivated by the business opportunity. They're just flat out saying, "Look, Coronavirus is scary. The world is upset. I want a way to take care of my family. 

I want a way to make money or I'm thinking of retiring from my other business. I want to start my next thing." 

And they see the Pool Preserver™ as this cool fun business that they can participate in. It's a good lifestyle business. We believe it can make good money.* 

They like the fact that the machines doing the work and they're not scrubbing pool decks. That's fun for them. 

The fact is that we're so accustomed to these lengthy city and large company processes that takes months and months. And here we have an opportunity with individuals and couples who want to start a small business, and it happens so much faster.

3 Million in the Sales Pipeline!

But bottom line is I've already backlogged about $3 million in sales pipeline, just on the Pool Preserver™, right now, in the CRM.

And this is for our Texas unit, which does about a million a quarter. And here you're talking about $3 million, in new pipeline. We're not saying these will all go through, and we have to disclaim all that stuff, but this groundswell of interest is a big deal.

And I tell you what, geography wise, the interest is everywhere. We're getting folks from California and Arizona and Ohio... North and South Carolina, Florida, Georgia... 

I literally am talking to people everywhere.

When I ask, "How is it over there?" They say, "This is great. We love it. We love our pools." 

They're great people... down to earth entrepreneurs looking for a steady business.

And the Pool Preserver™ isn't the only deployable product we have...

We have a product called the Pondster™, The Pond Monster™, which cleans up all those animal farm poop ponds and trailer park poop ponds, and so that's a series of products that substantially improve the value of real estate.

Stinky Ponds

Where there is these things called mobile home parks in the South, which literally just dump raw wastewater into a pond that sits out behind these mobile home parks. 

It's pretty nasty actually, and it's really not treated. 

This is a bit of a throwback to the years ago treatment of having septic tanks and open pond aeration, where essentially you were allowed to do this stuff for a while, but with new laws, new regulations coming about, there's a lot more crackdown on industries using the pond as a sewage treatment facility. 

Many jurisdictions will require an owner/operator to cure the situation before the property can be sold.

Clean Up On Demand

Working with Dan and our team in Texas, we came up with a unique solution.

 Mobile containerized treatment.

Rather than having this dirty little mess out there with a smelly brown pond, you can clean it up and meet or exceed regulatory requirements.

It's Plug and Play

It's not all that big. 

It's about 16 and a half feet long. It is about five feet tall and it's about eight and a half feet wide. So it's fairly small. It does have inside of it, a really nifty enclosed equipment room. 

This truly is what we consider a plug-and-play technology. 

This system where it's made out of structural plastic, it's corrosion resistant, it's designed to receive water from the pond, it's pumped through into the bioreactor chamber.  

And It's been designed for a 25-30 year operating life.

Another Leasing Model: A True Game Changer

A mobile home park operator could expect to spend $80,000 on a system like this.  A sizable investment.

With our new in house financing program we can lease these units for as little as 2K per month.

It solves a big problem for the park in an affordable way.

And for us? 

We estimate we could collect 24K/ Year on a machine that may only cost 50k to produce.* 

If the buyer defaults?

Because the system is modular - it's easy to repossess!  

And we re-lease the machine to a new operator.

Water Distressed Real Estate Investing

A major automotive dealer wanted to open a new dealership in a highly desirable location. 

But the location didn't have access to public sewer and there wasn't enough room to install a conventional wastewater disposal system.

The dealer worked with their consulting engineer and determined a closed-loop wastewater recycling system might enable the property to be successfully devoloped.

Our Modular Water System transformed an "Odd Lot" into the ideal location for a new dealership.

An added benefit was the substantial increase in the real estate asset value of the property.
